Regional Framework for Ageing Launch Event

The Regional Framework for Ageing was launched on April 24th 2009 at Reebok Stadium, Bolton. 

Sponsored by Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), Department of Health North West (DH NW) and 5050vision, this event launched the Framework and the partner agencies commitments and priorities for implementation of actions and recommendations of the Framework.

Chaired by Steve Ireland, former Head of Regional Broadcasting for the BBC, key speakers were:

- Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the Northwest Development Agency, introduced Everybody's Future the Regional Framework for Ageing and the Development Agency's commitment to achieving the priorities recommended in the Framework.  Steven also outlined the importance of the Framework and a commitment to longer term thinking about the demographic impact in the region, in light of the current economic difficulties.

- Ruth Hussey, Director of Public Health

- Michael Gallagher, Director of Planning, Transport & Housing 4NW the Regional Leaders Forum

- Greg Burke, Deputy Regional Director Worklessness, Regeneration & Social Exclusion Government Office for the North West (GONW)

- Vivienne Stone, Head of Operations North, English Regions Team Equality & Human Rights Commission  (EHRC)

- Simon Wilkinson, Later Life Performance Support Team, Older People & Ageing Society Division, Department of Work & Pensions

With a video address by Regional Minister for the North West, Beverley Hughes MP

The event was attended by key influencers, policy and decision makers across the public, private and voluntary sectors and gave delegates the opportunity to identify the key organisational issues and provided strategic direction and practical support in responding to the opportunities as well as challenges presented by an ageing population.

The Regional Framework for Ageing represents a partnership response to demographic change and a commitment to its implementation and delivery by the North West Development Agency, Government Office North West, 4NW (Regional Leaders Forum), NHS NW, Department of Health NW and Joint Improvement Partnership.

We would like to thank delegates for their participation in the event and during discussion.  Delegates were invited to prepare questions for the panel but if there was not time to respond to these on the day, we agreed we would post these questions on to our website with responses.
