5050vision was the first Regional Forum on Ageing to be set up in the country.
Through working in partnership, the agencies and interests involved in 5050vision seek to work towards a reduction in the numbers of older people affected by economic and social exclusion through promoting a joined-up regional approach to, for example, correcting the supply (availability of workers) and demand side (employment) failures which may prevent older people from remaining in the labour market.
5050vision was launched in March 2003 to bring together organisations operating at regional level or within the region, to identify and promote understanding of the issues relating to demographic change and the over 50s. Specifically, the increasing number of over 50s in the population and fewer people in younger age groups will have major implications for the economy of the NW, employment and skills requirements etc. Through partnership working, 5050vision seeks recognition and response to consequential issues in regioinal strategies and policies and in the action taken by the public, private and voluntary sectors. Age legislation merely serves to highlight the point and give added leverage to this agenda.
